Important: WSNA Leadership Conference cancelled because of hazardous health conditions caused by the wildfires in eastern Washington
After consulting with various State agencies including the Dept of Transportation, Chelan County Public Health Department and environmental health experts, WSNA has made the difficult decision to cancel the Leadership Conference and related meetings in Chelan Sept. 22-25, due to the unpredictability of the wildfires in eastern Washington and unhealthy air quality. While no one can predict the exact status of the fire several days from now, experts have advised us that the air quality remains hazardous and may in fact worsen over the next 7-10 days.
The current hazardous air quality condition in that region carries the warning of: “Serious aggravation of pre-existing heart and lung diseases. Increased pre-mature mortality among sensitive populations. Serious risk of adverse respiratory affects in the general population.” The recommendation for the population is that: “Everyone should avoid any outdoor exertion, remain indoors, or if possible relocate to a “clean-air” area.”
Our first and foremost priority is everyone’s health and safety. We understand that this will cause significant inconvenience for many of you and apologize in advance. WSNA will of course refund your full registration fee and there will not be hotel room cancellation charges from Campbell’s Resort. It is important that you call Campbells Resort as soon as possible at 509-682-2561 to cancel your hotel reservation. We will refund you for the Conference registration cost or refund your local unit account for those of you who paid via local unit funds.
Thank you for your understanding and please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. If you have any questions, please contact Margaret Conley, Assistant Director of Labor Relations at 206-450-0826.
