Today’s health care professional providing services to geriatric populations must develop and
maintain a familiarity with many aspects of elder law to understand the legal and regulatory maze
impacting on their organizations. To make necessary and appropriate referrals and to understand
the concerns of patients, residents, or clients and their families, providers of health care and
professionals working with elderly citizens are expected to have knowledge regarding advance
directive and guardianship issues; Medicare Part D and related topics; Medicaid eligibility; and
answers to commonly asked questions regarding the major changes in Medicaid. Ms. Vance, Mr.
Tartella, and Mr. Menashe will provide updated information regarding these issues.
The purpose of this intensive one-day program is to examine the legal issues of planning for disability/
incapacity and to provide current information crucial to care planning and case management of
geriatric clients. Ms. Vance, Mr. Tartella, and Mr. Menashe will focus on the legal and financial
issues, plus case law, which impact on everyday aspects of providing health care services.
At the conclusion of this program the learner will have the knowledge required to:
- Describe Financial & Medical Powers of Attorney, various guardianships, and Health Care
Directives.
- Discuss Medicare and related topics.
- Compare different Medicaid programs available.
- Identify the new rules affecting Medicaid Long-Term Care coverage.

especially mental health professionals, who are familiar
with the unique problems and challenges facing this
population. Effective treatment in the aged requires
an understanding of the interplay between the aging body, the aging brain, and
psychological well being.
The purpose of this program is to provide attendees with knowledge, tools, and
techniques that will enable them to deliver high-quality health treatment to older
adults. They will gain the skills necessary for the complex process of assessment and
intervention, including medical, psychological, environmental, and interpersonal
issues, and will be able to apply this knowledge to the diagnosis and treatment of
elderly clients.

The purpose of this workshop is to review and experience a bevy of strength-based,
practical strategies that have proven effective in addressing some of the more
typical concerns presented by children, adolescents, and adults with Asperger’s
Syndrome, Nonverbal Learning Disorder, and High-Functioning Autism. The
workshop will begin with a quick review of High-Functioning Autism, Asperger’s
Syndrome, and Nonverbal Learning Disability and proceed with a combination of
quick, “short-strike” interventions, mixed with more in-depth, interactive activities.
Participants will be encouraged to take part in these group and individual exercises.
Case studies, accompanied by open discussion and group networking, is used to
further complement your understanding and awareness of the notion of ‘Asperger,
HFA, and NLD perspectives’. The workshop will be continually updated, reflecting
ongoing research and clinical findings involving these populations, and will draw
from multi-therapeutic and multi-modal disciplines.
