With the American Nurses Association designating 2016 as the “Culture of Safety” year, we at WSNA want to rerun our patient safety survey to find out whether things have changed since 2011.

Are you hesitant to report an error or patient safety concern because you are afraid of being disciplined or losing your job?
Do the actions of hospital management show that patient safety is a top priority, or does management seem interested in patient safety only after an adverse event happens?
These are a couple of the questions WSNA asked you, our members, five years ago, in an effort to better understand nurse perceptions of how well hospitals were cultivating a Culture of Safety. With the American Nurses Association designating 2016 as the “Culture of Safety” year, we at WSNA want to rerun our survey to find out whether things have changed since 2011.
We want to hear from you! The survey should only take a few minutes of your time, and your responses will be completely anonymous. Your input will help all of us better understand, from the nurse’s perspective, how well medical facilities across the state are doing at inculcating a Culture of Safety.
Please complete our survey by Friday, February 12!
We will share your responses in the Spring issue of The Washington Nurse magazine as well as here on our website. More importantly, your responses to this survey will inform WSNA’s ongoing efforts to ensure that every nurse in every hospital works in a culture that is safe, where errors or near misses are an opportunity to evaluate and improve systems rather than simply blame an individual.
