The high rate of substance use disorder among health care professionals is driven by access to medication, expert knowledge of administration and use, and stressful working conditions. Too often the problem goes unrecognized.

This program is intended to increase registered nurse knowledge and situational awareness of substance use disorder and to provide key information and support essential to resolution.

Rodrigo Garcia, MSN, MBA, APN-BC, CRNA, RN
A health care provider for more than 20 years, Rodrigo Garcia is now CEO of Parkdale Center for Professionals, a dual diagnosis substance abuse treatment facility near Chicago specializing in the management of the impaired health care provider.

After emerging from a dangerous battle with the disease of substance use disorder, Rodrigo has gone on to educate thousands of families, state employees, individuals, employers and professional organizations.

Claudia Garcia, MBA, BSN, RN, LAC, CADACII
Claudia has more than fifteen years of direct patient care experience as well as managerial and recruitment experience. She holds an MBA degree with a focus on health care administration, specializing in assistance of the health care professional in need and is a certified addiction drug and alcohol counselor and licensed addiction counselor.

Claudia currently serves as the Executive Director of the Indiana Professionals Recovery Program for nurses and pharmacists. She brings to her work a firsthand knowledge of addiction and recovery through the eyes of a non-addicted loved one and family member.

Paula Meyer, Executive Director of Washington state’s Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission, will join the Q&A to share information about Washington Health Professional Services, a confidential program for chemically-impaired health professionals.
