Lynnwood Convention Center

Lynnwood, WA 98036

The Palliative Care Center of Excellence at the University of Washington was launched in 2012 with the goal of giving every patient with serious illness access to high-quality palliative care focused on relieving symptoms, maximizing quality of life and ensuring care that concentrates on patients’ goals. Inter-professional teams of nurses, social workers, chaplains, pharmacists and doctors must work together to meet the complex medical, emotional and spiritual needs of seriously ill patients and their loved ones, and these teams need support and resources. The goal of the newly renamed Cambia Palliative Care Center of Excellence, directed by J. Randall Curtis, M.D., MPH, is to see that palliative care has an integral and prominent role in healthcare — regionally, nationally and internationally — for seriously ill patients and their families.

The 2019 PNW Palliative Care Conference, Caring for Diverse Populations, features a keynote presentation by Dr. Marjorie Kagawa-Singer, PhD, MN, RN, from the University of California Los Angeles on Cross-Cultural (Mis)understandings in Palliative Care. Other topics will include: Interrupting Racism in Palliative Care, Race/Ethnicity, Socioeconomic Status, and Healthcare Intensity at the End of Life, Substance Use Disorder Management in Palliative Care and variety of breakout groups.

For Registered Nurses, this course counts as 13.5 Contact Hours. This class is sponsored by Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, Washington, which is approved as a provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing. California Provider #CEP 13773
