The University of Washington School of Nursing, Continuing Nursing Education presents Conference 2018 - update in medical-surgical nursing.

​Target Audience: For healthcare professionals including staff nurses, clinical nurse leaders, clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, nurse educators, managers, administrators, social workers and other interested healthcare providers.

Description: This conference offers you the opportunity to update your medical-surgical clinical practice, hear about new research and guidelines and acquire new assessment and management strategies. Come dialogue with speakers and network with colleagues to enhance your care innovations, collaboration and confidence in your medical-surgical nursing knowledge and abilities. Topics are presented by experts and teaching methods include lecture, discussion and case study analysis.

Objectives for learning outcomes:

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be better able to:

  1. Identify the 5 “Ps” of effective patient rounding that improves both patient safety and patient satisfaction.
  2. Identify essential elements of cranial/spine neuro assessment and corresponding neuro anatomy.
  3. Differentiate the components of marijuana.
  4. Outline benefits of multimodal analgesia.
  5. Discuss new guideline recommendations.
  6. Develop a better understanding of transgender identities and experiences.
  7. Compare the nursing process to the continuous cycle of improvement.
  8. Describe two main reasons for head to toe skin assessment.
  9. Discuss insulin use with surgical patients: proactive management for excellent outcomes.
  10. Discuss the history of influenza.
  11. Discover 3 or more core values and ways of cultivating values in caregiving through mindfulness and compassion practices.

Available credit: 14.5 Contact hours/2.5 Pharmacology hours at the advanced practice level
