Mumps Update: Outbreak continues to grow

On Feb. 3, King County health officials upped their official count of Mumps cases to 177, including 71 confirmed and 106 probable. The outbreak in Auburn continues to be the most widespread, with 127 cases. According to Public Health – Seattle & King County, children and teens aged 17 and younger account for 112 of the cases. Public health officials in Spokane have reported 152 cases of Mumps as of Feb. 5, and that number is expected to grow in coming days as several more cases are investigated, according to the Spokane Regional Health District. Spokane’s Mumps page includes a link to a “quick math tutorial” that explains efficacy rates for the MMR vaccine as well as info about a free vaccination clinic being held on Feb. 8.
