WSNA local unit update

SHMC ULP

Our co-workers in technical staff jobs, members of UFCW 3000, have announced that they will go on strike at Sacred Heart Medical Center beginning on April 22, 2024.  WSNA nurses recognize that these tech workers provide vital services that are essential to high quality care for our patients.  We fully support our tech co-workers in their fight for a fair contract.

Article 17 of the WSNA contract at SHMC prohibits nurses from joining in any strike or work stoppage.  WSNA members must report to work as scheduled and perform their duties during work hours.  Any activity to support the tech workers’ strike must occur during non-work time.

One way you can show your support for your tech co-workers is to wear a UFCW button along with your WSNA button at work.  You can get a UFCW button/sticker at the next two sip and chats (By Thomas Hammer in the cafeteria) which are:

April 23, 2024 from 2100 – 2330

April 24, 2024 from 0800 – 1130

Remember, mandatory overtime is prohibited with a few narrow exceptions (unforeseeable emergent circumstances, prescheduled on-call time, when the employer has used reasonable efforts to obtain staffing, or when an employee is required to work overtime to complete a patient care procedure already in progress where the absence of the employee could have an adverse effect on the patient).  You have the right to refuse to work voluntary overtime without fear of retaliation.

We urge nurses to sign the UFCW 3000 community pledge of support for striking healthcare Technical Workers at Sacred Heart!  Community Support for Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center TECH workers (jotform.com)

If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, I respectfully request that my union representative be present at this meeting. Without representation present, I choose not to participate in this discussion.
