Moving forward from a place of strength
Posted Nov 13, 2025
Hundreds of nurses have stepped up to become strike captains and help bring our bargaining team valuable information about what direction our membership wants to move in. There are understandably still a lot of questions around what moving forward towards a strike at Seattle Children’s Hospital would actually look like. The process itself is designed to build power and community along the way resulting in strong, united, and cohesive action. Here is what you can expect:
- Strike Assessments (we are here)
- Once we've completed assessing over 80% of nurses at SCH, we present our assessment numbers to the statewide Labor Executive Council, which is made up of elected bedside nurses. The LEC listens to the recommendation of the Bargaining Team and WSNA Staff based on the results of the strike assessments. After hearing all the information from the team and looking at the assessment numbers, the LEC will let the team know if they have authorized a strike vote
- Assuming the LEC authorizes a strike vote, SCH nurses get a 7-day minimum notice of the strike vote days and times
- The strike vote is held
- Assuming the vote is successful, we present the results of the vote to the LEC. The bargaining team makes a recommendation for the length and dates of the strike, using the data collected from strike assessments. The LEC will then authorize a strike, strike length, and dates of the strike based off the data from strike assessments and the team's recommendation. The LEC also ensures that the length and dates of the strike are strategic. This means considering factors like healthcare, cost to the hospital, and the data from the bargaining unit
- If a strike is authorized, WSNA gives the hospital a minimum 10-day notice so they can start preparing for the safe transition of patient care
- Strike!
