Bargaining update

We met with Kindred management today for our 6th bargaining session. Management once again returned with an inadequate wage proposal that does not begin to close the gap between Kindred and other area hospitals. Kindred still rejected our proposal of a wage scale which would honor your commitment to Kindred by providing step increases like area hospitals do. Kindred’s wage offer would amount to a raise of about $1.50 for the majority of nurses – we clearly communicated that this was inadequate.  Kindred loses a tremendous amount of money each year by having to entice people with sign-on bonuses and training of new staff instead of just providing their current staff with fair wages.

We did have some meaningful conversation around the need for safe parking options for all staff (including night shift!). We also discussed problems with requiring RNs to sign off on LPN care when nurses have not been able to verify the care and assessments the LPNs are providing.
