WSNA Update UFCW ULP Strike?

UFCW

We have heard from nurses in the Operating Rooms that the techs of UFCW are voting Thursday to reauthorize a possible ULP strike. There are questions around what nurses should expect to do should a ULP strike happen, and to continue to support them in solidarity.  Here are some common questions we have been fielding.

If UFCW strikes, do I cross the picket line? You need to still show up to work your scheduled shifts per the contract Article 17. However, the hospital cannot force nurses to work overtime, so out of support for UFCW, we ask nurses to not pick up any extra shifts if they do go on strike.

What else can I do to help? Wear a UFCW button! Buttons can be picked up during the UFCW re-authorization strike vote on Thursday, April 11 from 7am to 8pm in the Leahy Room (next to the cafeteria).

Can management ask me to perform  UFCW work while on strike? Management can never ask you to do any job that requires you to do so without being trained, or to operate outside of your scope of practice.

Buttons will also be available at the next two WSNA sip and chats!
