Nurses Week announcements

Nurses Week 2024 is almost here!

As a special thank you for all your hard work in ensuring we had a successful contract campaign, your new officers have been working to make this year's Nurses Week extra memorable. We cannot thank all of you enough for the dedication and energy brought forth to make our contract dreams a reality -- from hitting the ground with pledges and petitions to pulling off one of the most highly attended pickets in recent Seattle nursing history! Nurses at Virginia Mason showed the hospital and the community there is nothing we cannot accomplish together when we remain UNION STRONG!

Drawings

This year, we wanted to have some extra special giveaways! Monday (May 6th) through Sunday (May 12th), we will be doing 3 gift card drawings everyday of the week valued at $100, $50, and $25. Gift cards included are to some of our local favorites such as REI, Molly Moons, Din Tai Fung, Elliot Bay Bookstore, Sugar Bakery etc! The list goes on and on! Every WSNA member will be automatically entered to win a gift card, but if you want an additional chance at winning...

Nominate a nurse colleague!

Want to say thank you to your amazing coworker? We would love to hear about it! Let’s show our love for one another by nominating a WSNA nurse for a special prize. Tell us why you think this coworker makes a difference in the workplace. Follow the link to fill out the survey and we will choose and announce a winner on Friday, May 10th! By submitting an entry to nominate a coworker, you will also get one extra entry in the drawings for gift cards! Entries must be submitted by 5/5 to be considered.

Check your WSNA bulletin board for QR entry and tell your coworkers to share the love! Can’t find your board? Let us know! We would love to add one to your break room.

Treats and gifts

This year, we will be going around with light treats on both day and night shifts on Monday, May 6th. We will also be distributing WSNA camp style mugs to each break room! (Please one per member). We will be leaving a list of current members with them so you can check yourself off once taken.

Not a member? You can fill out an online application.

Get involved

We are always looking for more help and engagement! We have several committees that can always use more Union power. Not interested in committees? Become a unit rep! We need help all throughout the hospital to make celebrations like this a reality and to keep units updated on the latest Union news. Contact your local unit officers or our organizer, Grace LaMonte, if interested.

Once again, we cannot thank our fellow nurses enough for the incredible Union power demonstrated over the past year -- great things happen when we stick together and stay UNION STRONG!

Happy Nurses Week to all our Virginia Mason Nurses!

Resources and tools

Document unsafe conditions

If you find yourself in a situation that you believe creates unsafe conditions for patients or for you, you should complete a Staffing Complaint / ADO Form as soon as possible.

By completing the form, you will help make the problem known to management, creating an opportunity for the problem to be addressed. Additionally, you will be documenting the facts, which may be helpful to you later if there is a negative outcome.

WSNA also uses your ADO forms to track the problems occurring in your facility. When you and your coworkers take the important step of filling out an ADO form, you are helping to identify whether there is a pattern of unsafe conditions for you or your patients at your facilities. This information is used by your conference committee, staffing committee, and WSNA labor staff to improve your working conditions.

Representation rights

As a union member, you have the right to have a representative present in any meetings with management that could potentially lead to disciplinary action against you.

If called into a meeting with management, read the following to management when the meeting begins:

If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, I respectfully request that my union representative be present at this meeting. Without representation present, I choose not to participate in this discussion.

Find out more about this crucial right and how to exercise it to ensure your fair treatment and protection.
