Nurses Week is almost here!
Posted Apr 26, 2024
As Nurses Week approaches, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible dedication and hard work you demonstrate every day. Your unwavering commitment to patient care and compassion truly makes a difference in the lives of so many.
To celebrate Nurses Week and to show our appreciation for all that you do, we've planned a series of exciting events and giveaways just for you!
Here's what we have in store:
- **Catered Breakfast Burritos**: Kick off Nurses Week on May 9, 2024, with a delicious catered breakfast of mouth-watering burritos for all our amazing nurses.
- **Daily Gift Basket Giveaways**: Each day from May 6 -12, we'll be giving away two gift baskets—one for the day shift and one for the night shift. These baskets will include beautifully etched glassware (see picture below), a $50 movie theatre gift card for some well-deserved relaxation, and a $5 Starbucks card to fuel your day.
- **Daily Starbucks Gift Card Giveaways**: We'll also be giving away four $10 Starbucks gift cards each day of Nurses Week—two for the day shift and two for the night shift. Enjoy your favorite coffee or treat on us!
- **Union Board Decorating Contest**: Did your unit participate in the union board decorating contest? If so, you're in for a chance to win big! Each participating unit will be entered to win a gift of their choice valued at $100. The winners will be decided by a popular vote among the nurses at St. Joe's, so be sure to cast your vote! You have until May 12 to enter, so there’s still time to fill out the form at https://forms.office.com/r/EX1Awyp2Zx.
We look forward to seeing you during Nurses Week and celebrating all the progress we have made together as a profession and as a union.

Resources and tools
Document unsafe conditions
If you find yourself in a situation that you believe creates unsafe conditions for patients or for you, you should complete a Staffing Complaint / ADO Form as soon as possible.
By completing the form, you will help make the problem known to management, creating an opportunity for the problem to be addressed. Additionally, you will be documenting the facts, which may be helpful to you later if there is a negative outcome.
WSNA also uses your ADO forms to track the problems occurring in your facility. When you and your coworkers take the important step of filling out an ADO form, you are helping to identify whether there is a pattern of unsafe conditions for you or your patients at your facilities. This information is used by your conference committee, staffing committee, and WSNA labor staff to improve your working conditions.
Representation rights
As a union member, you have the right to have a representative present in any meetings with management that could potentially lead to disciplinary action against you.
If called into a meeting with management, read the following to management when the meeting begins:
If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, I respectfully request that my union representative be present at this meeting. Without representation present, I choose not to participate in this discussion.
Find out more about this crucial right and how to exercise it to ensure your fair treatment and protection.
