Nurses call on UW Regents to address staffing, safety, and pay concerns

Nurses from UW Medicine’s Montlake and Northwest campuses urged the UW Board of Regents (BOR) on July 9 to address deteriorating working conditions, warning that unsafe staffing, rising violence, and inflexible scheduling threaten patient care and may push staff to leave.

Five members of the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) spoke during the public comment period. WSNA represents 3,122 nurses across the two hospitals, who are negotiating a new contract after their previous agreement expired June 30.
