Your voice matters! Strong nurses = Strong leaders

We are asking all nurses to attend a very important board meeting:

Wednesday, September 28
5:30 p.m.
ABC room at CMC

Meet with your local unit leader Katrina Rostedt and your nurse representatives from WSNA at 5 p.m. in the lobby of the hospital so we can all walk in as a group. We will have WSNA T-shirts for all RN attendees. We are planning to have stickers to give to friends and family who join us in our efforts to have a conversation with the board and present our petition.

WSNA is concerned about the lack of nursing leadership at CMC. Currently there is no RN at the executive level in the organizational chart. You may remember we presented a letter to the board on March 22, 2022 in which we cited the following:

WAC 246-320-136 Leadership. This section describes leadership's role in assuring care is provided consistently throughout the hospital and according to patient and community needs. The hospital leaders must: (1) Appoint or assign a nurse at the executive level to: (a) Direct the nursing services;

On 4/20/22 WSNA filed a complaint with the DOH (Department of Health) after receiving a letter from the board denying our request. DOH summarily responded by closing the case due to lack of sufficient evidence.

Most recently, it was announced that nursing education is now under HR (Human Resources), who has absolutely no nursing background and certainly is not a nurse. We have heard rumors that HR is looking into hiring EMTs and Paramedics to do training for RNs. Not only is that inappropriate but it is an insult to all nurses. EMTs and Paramedics often teach CPR, emergency and trauma courses but they are not trained RNs. This should infuriate all RNs at CMC. It’s an insult to our profession.

The petition is still open. If you have not signed it, please make every effort to do so:.

It takes less than a minute to complete.

We need a show of force at this board meeting. We are only just beginning this fight. We are looking at more community involvement and engagement and we are up to the fight.

Clear your calendars and join us this coming Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 5 pm in the lobby of the hospital.

In solidarity,
Carmen Garrison, WSNA Nurse Representative
