We have a lot to discuss! There has been quite a bit of turnover since we last negotiated our contract. Our contract expires next July. It seems like a while out, but we need to start now to come together, prioritize what is important, and plan a path forward. There have been recent challenges with changes at the Hospital that we have been working hard to address, and we will share some of the process with you. There is a lot of work to be done. Please join us.

Changes in Surgical Department

There have been changes made in the surgical department, changing staffing needs, along with the hours and working conditions of your fellow WSNA nurses. WSNA has been resolute from the beginning of this process that changes in staffing, hours, and working conditions are mandatory subjects of bargaining. The hospital has refused to bargain. Because of this, WSNA filed Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) complaints against Skyline Hospital with the Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC).

We anticipate the state will agree with our position at the hearing. Our goal is simply to come together with management to negotiate the changes and produce a document that ensures everyone understands the mutual expectations regarding call coverage, rest between shifts, and other operational details of the new scheduling model or policies that affect WSNA nurses. We remain hopeful that we can reach a collaborative agreement with management before the hearing.

On a positive note, we had very productive and collaborative talks in the Hospital Staffing Committee about the staffing changes and mutually agreed to continue evaluating how things are going and to address any problems if or when they arise.

Your local unit’s strength and effectiveness is directly related to the level of participation of nurses in your union. Elected volunteer WSNA Local Unit Officers work in partnership with the WSNA Nurse Representative and are the foundation of our local unit.

A candidate must be a local unit member in good standing before running for office. If you are interested in running for office and are not a member, we can help you join. Descriptions of WSNA Officer Positions

Officer terms are for three (3) years.  Officers may succeed themselves.  Training and support are provided by WSNA. Officers may succeed themselves. A candidate for office must be a WSNA local unit member in good standing before running for office.

All officers collaborate on issues and have the authority to assign WSNA members to committees, including hospital staffing and conference committees. They can also create new WSNA committees as needed. Greater involvement and collaboration enhance the effectiveness of your local WSNA unit. You have access to local funds to support your goals, and yearly WSNA events provide opportunities to connect with nurses statewide, learn, and share experiences.

Co-Chairpersons:  Two Positions.  The co-chairpersons shall preside at all meetings of the unit. The Local Unit Co-Chairs lead and coordinate the Local Unit. Together with the other officers and with assistance from WSNA staff, you will attend Conference Committee meetings and establish a compelling vision for your Local Unit. Develop action plans that encourage member activism and build the power needed to accomplish your goals. Ensure the goals and business of the Local Unit are accomplished. Your work will focus on keeping members informed and involved, ensuring that the Local Unit Rules are followed and that committees function and remain accountable.

Secretary:  One position that could be combined, if needed, with the Treasurer position.  The Local Unit Secretary is responsible for ensuring that all officers and committees of the Local Unit are notified of upcoming meetings and events. The Local Unit Secretary assists with gathering information for the Local Unit Newsletters and works with the Local Unit Co-Chairs to send newsletter ideas or articles to the WSNA Nurse.  Receives and retains agenda, minutes, and notes. Takes notes at meetings and distributes minutes.

Treasurer:  One position that could be combined, if needed, with the secretary position.  The treasurer maintains financial records for the Local Unit, assists in developing a budget for membership activities, and pays bills using Local Unit fund vouchers.

Grievance Officer:  One position.  The grievance officer shall be the liaison between the unit and WSNA, advising and assisting WSNA in the Association’s dealings with the Employer concerning grievances. The grievance officer can attend investigatory meetings with nurses, assist with grievance investigations, attend grievance meetings, complete grievance forms, and assist nurses with contractual issues.  Works closely with the Nurse Representative regarding potential or actual grievance issues. Specific grievance and investigatory training will be provided.

In accordance with the Skyline Hospital Local Unit Rules, this serves as official notice of the 2026 Local Unit Officer Election.

Voting Period: The online ballot will open at 6:00 a.m. on September 24, 2026, and close at 11:59 p.m. on September 24, 2026.
