WSNA is aware that RNs may be redeployed to address staffing needs during the Omicron surge. There are a few things to be aware of if you are asked to float. If you are not affected, you may see some of these nurses working in your unit and please take note of some of the conditions for those nurses who are floating outside their specialty area.

• Nurses required to float shall receive orientation appropriate to the assignment. Whidbey is responsible for providing appropriate orientation and training to a nurse or healthcare worker necessary to safely care for the assigned patients. Float assignments will comply with the Washington state standards of nursing practice and align with the competencies of the float registered nurse.
• A nurse floated outside their specialty area will not be expected to take a full assignment where they have not the ability and/or orientation to the procedures and requirements.
