Tami Green

A dedicated psychiatric nurse whose service, from bedside care to the state legislature, advanced mental health care and nursing advocacy.

Tami Green, BA, RN, PMH-BC, was born in an active-duty military family, where she learned the importance of service and community.

As a nurse, a union leader, and a member of the Washington State Legislature, Green has been a passionate advocate for her patients, her fellow nurses, and the communities she serves.

Green began her career in nursing in 1982, caring for patients with some of the most acute mental illnesses. She has worked with patients at facilities including Western State Hospital, the Child Study and Treatment Center in Lakewood, Good Samaritan Hospital, and St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.

In 2004, Green ran for and won a seat in the Washington State House of Representatives. She was supported by WSNA PAC and joined a landmark group of eight registered nurses in the State Legislature that year. In her ten years as a State Representative, Tami was a model of nurse leadership. She fought for nursing practice, and especially for mental healthcare, developmental disability services, nurse staffing, and education. She helped change the conversation in Olympia by bringing her voice as a nurse and a mental health advocate to the table. For her exemplary work in the legislature, she was named the 2008 Washington Health Care Association Legislator of the Year.

Green advocated for fellow members as a WSNA leader in the local units in which she worked. In 2017, she was elected president of the Rainier Olympic Nurses Association (RONA). She served four two-year terms as president, leading RONA through the COVID pandemic and the challenging years that followed. Under her leadership, RONA grew from a district to a region, increasing the voice and power of nurses.

Green currently serves as a member pro tem of the Washington State Board of Nursing, where her deep experience in mental health has proven invaluable on the Substance Abuse Disorder Review Panel and the Case Disposition Panel for Discipline.

She continues to care for patients at Community Healthcare Clinic in Pierce County while launching a coaching business to help others achieve their goals.

Green is an exemplar of service, commitment, and community. Her work has improved Washington state healthcare policy, nursing practice, and the lives of countless patients.
