In 2023, important changes were made to strengthen Washington state’s nurse staffing law. One important change expands upon nurse staffing committees. In 2024, hospitals must establish hospital staffing committees (HSC) to adopt patient care unit and shift based staffing plans to promote quality patient care. These committees are comprised of at least fifty percent direct patient care nursing staff and fifty percent hospital administration.
