Grievance Updates

Read below about active contract violations we have filed against MultiCare. Nurses can work with the union to file grievances when we feel the contract is being violated. Read about the grievance process in Article 14 of our contract.

  • Cannon and All Affected- the Employer is issuing a low census and calling nurses back prior to their 4 hour low census. Nurses should always ask if the low census is mandatory or if they can refuse the LC. If they’re told to stay home, nurses should clarify if they’re expected to be available to report for duty on short notice and claim callback for that standby time. Email your WSNA Rep if you think you’re impacted.
  • Meal and Rest Breaks- MultiCare has not provided us answers to questions we sent them and we continue to work on this issue. We are aware they have pushed back the implementation and will have more information to follow. If you don’t get a break- claim it on your timecard.
  • Pulse Probations and Fellowships- We have heard from a few nurses that it may be routine practice in Pulse to extend orientation or fellowship just to separate from the nurse or fail them from their fellowship. We are investigating this practice as we feel extensions should be the exception, not the expectation.
  • Parker and All Affected- unilateral implementation of self-scheduling on L&D. The Employer has not provided our union with relevant information. We will schedule this meeting once the Employer has furnished the information.

Spring Unit Rep Trainings: Stronger Together!

Although it seems like our contract was just ratified, we are quickly approaching our next round of negotiations! Now is a great time to become more involved in our union by signing up for a Unit Rep Training. Nurses across MultiCare facilities in Pierce County are invited to attend this training as we approach bargaining at Tacoma General in 2025 and Good Samaritan in 2026.

Unit Reps help support our elected union officers as they volunteer to support staffing committee, negotiations, and all the other work that comes with ensuring our contract is enforced.

The training covers the basics of contract enforcement and workplace organizing. Topics include:

  • The role of a Unit Rep
  • Our rights at work
  • Just cause discipline
  • Internal issue organizing for your unit
  • Actions during contract campaigns

From your WSNA Chair Therese Juntunen-

We need unit reps because: "I can't do this by myself. We know that nurses at Tacoma General want a great contract, but we can't do that without people showing up."

WSNA Blue looks good on you and you and YOU!

TG officers

Sign up with this link to fill in your information and get a WSNA T-shirt. As we all know our contract expires this year and we want every nurse to have one. If you’d like to get more involved, we’ve included options on this sign-up as well. Pictured above- Sarah H. TG WSNA Membership officer, Therese J. TG WSNA Chair, Crystal Anderson MaryBridge NICU Chair, and Dallas WSNA RN during cafeteria time!

Linda Alderson

We have multiple openings for our WSNA Conference Committee.

We are seeking up to 5 nurses across all departments to sit on this committee that currently meets every other month. This committee provides a space for nurses to meet directly with management, including Linda Alderson, to discuss issues impacting nurses. In our last meeting on May 2, 2025, the WSNA chair and co-chair (pictured above) discussed the following items:

  • Lack of breakroom boards
  • TG New hire location for our union to meet with nurses
  • 2M staffing related to who staffs it and how staff are floated
  • Meal & rest break waivers

Email your WSNA Nurse Representative and let her know you’d like to serve on this committee.
