Important Update: Employer Proposal Regarding Payroll Schedule Changes

Dear BFHD Nurses,

BFHD has notified WSNA that it intends to transition from its current monthly payroll schedule to a bi-weekly payroll schedule beginning in January 2027.

According to the information provided by BFHD, the transition would include a one-time payroll timing adjustment in January 2027. As described by the employer, employees would receive one fewer week of wages during the January transition period, with that amount remaining owed and payable upon separation from employment.

To address the impact of this proposed change, BFHD has presented potential options that employees could elect, including:

  • Voluntary additional payroll withholding during the remainder of 2026, with the accumulated funds returned in December 2026.
  • A voluntary cash-out of up to one week of accrued vacation, paid in December 2026 (for eligible staff-level employees).
  • A combination of both options.

WSNA has not agreed to these proposed changes.

Upon receiving notice of the payroll transition, WSNA sent a formal demand to bargain and requested that BFHD cease and desist from implementing any changes affecting bargaining unit nurses until the parties have completed negotiations. The timing of pay, payroll practices, and related impacts on employees are mandatory subjects of bargaining, and WSNA intends to fully evaluate the employer's proposal and advocate for nurses' interests.

At this time:

  • No agreement has been reached regarding the payroll transition.
  • No memorandum of agreement (MOA) has been finalized.
  • WSNA is reviewing the employer's proposals and related documents.
  • WSNA will provide updates as bargaining progresses.

We understand that any change affecting employees' pay can create uncertainty and concern.  Our goal is to ensure that nurses' rights are protected and that any changes are fully negotiated before implementation.

If you have questions, concerns, or would like to share how a payroll timing change could affect you and your family, please contact your WSNA officer or Nurse Representative.

In solidarity,
Laurie Robinson
