Quick news you can use

Benefits

We discussed in conference committee the changes to health insurance provider. We were informed by Confluence that there are no substantive changes to the coverage and have requested a side-by-side comparison of plans. We were also informed that no WSNA nurses have been attending benefits committees for quite some time however we have heard that nurses were left off of the invitations. We will continue to discuss this issue moving forward.

Scholarships

WSNF scholarship applications are now open. Deadline is February 9 to submit. You can find more information at https://www.wanursesfoundation.org/scholarships.

Staffing

Are you a PCU or OR nurse who wants to add to the conversation and advocate for your unit? The next nurse staffing committee meeting will be held in conference rooms F&G on February 12th. Welcome Simon Morton, WSNA Membership officer as co-chair of the nurse staffing committee.

Grievance and Arbitration updates

Day two of arbitration for nurses placed on LOA secondary to medical or religious accommodation requests will be held in Wenatchee on February 21.

Pool pay grievance was argued on February 15 by WSNA grievance officer Brittney Lamb. We expect a response on or around January 29.

SOU staffing grievance will be scheduled early February.

L&I Update

As of January 1, 2024, nurses in Washington state now qualify for benefits under L&I for post traumatic stress disorder. This provision is retroactive up to three years after the last employment as a registered nurse if there is no preexisting diagnosis.

MU1 Closure

We have met with all nurses affected by closure. Shadowing of units and roles is currently being coordinated and nurses are being supported through the transition. More to come on closure and timelines in the coming weeks.

Advocacy

We are looking for members interested in an officer role or even a unit representative position. Time commitment for officers is approximately 5-10 hours per month, unit representatives serve as a point of contact on their units. Please reach out to your WSNA organizer Jenny Galassi, jgalassi@wsna.org if you are interested in becoming more involved with your union.
