Negotiations: A reality check
Posted Feb 20, 2026
After our most recent bargaining sessions, management released an update suggesting that negotiations “should not be a fight” with a “winner”.
Let’s be clear.
No nurse came into this process looking for a fight. We came to the table with clear priorities, thoughtful proposals, and a willingness to problem-solve.
But when management repeatedly:
- Dismisses nurse priorities as “unreasonable:”
- Refuses to meaningfully close wage gaps and touts already existing step increases to inflate the impact of their proposals
- Offers process language without action
- Suggests that if nurses want safety improvements, “the union can pay for it”
It stops being about collaboration.
Negotiations are not about winning or losing. They are about addressing the real issues that nurses have identified.
