Action Alert Announcement

Dear Public Health nurses and nurse supervisors,

The King County’s Budget and Fiscal Management (BFM) Committee will be discussing the 2027 budget for King County at 9 am this Wednesday, October 28. We need your help once again to encourage the Council to do the right thing and establish a reliable, sustainable funding source for the public health clinics. Please take action NOW.

As we have shared before, WSNA is lobbying King County Executive Zahilay and King County Councilmembers to use the taxing authority granted to them by the state legislature earlier this year to finally establish a reliable, sustainable funding source for clinics. Councilmember Mosqueda has been extremely helpful in elevating the importance of using this taxing authority granted to the County and doing so now before their temporary funding source ends in December of next year.

King County Public Health clinics serve a vulnerable population of over 80,000 people that are largely uninsured or Medicaid recipients. The number of uninsured is expected to grow significantly in 2027 by an additional 200,000 people due to the 2025 passage of HR 1 at the federal level.

Help us urge Council to do the right thing now before we see this huge influx of newly uninsured people grow.

In addition to our lobby efforts, WSNA has been working closely with our partners at Protec17 on this matter. One of those joint efforts resulted in MLK Labor’s resolution passed on October 21 in support of King County Public Health clinics. A big thank you and shout out to MLK Labor for this resolution and for their support!
