Negotiation update session #7

We have a deal!

After many full-day zoom bargaining sessions, we reached a tentative agreement in the 11th hour of negotiations on Tuesday December 15, 2020. Your bargaining team fought until the very end to make sure that we could bring you the very best deal we could get. The County’s economic proposal was better than what they proposed anywhere else, and better than we expected. The county moved (a lot) on a lot of items that were important to us, despite the COVID pandemic and enormous fiscal uncertainty.

This will be a two-year contract, 2021-2022

Important Gains:

  • On January 1, 2021, 1% general wage increase; On January 1, 2022, 2% general wage increase
  • Ratification bonus for career service nurses: $500.00 upon County Council ratification
  • Ratification bonus for term limited temporary nurses (TLT) of $250.00 upon County Council ratification
  • Reimbursement for nursing license for career service, and for TLT nurses after they have worked for the County for 12 months
  • Modest increase in certification premium; and
  • Modest increase in bilingual premium

We built in safeguards to CHS scheduling parameters in case the County decides to implement more Saturday hours at other sites than Midway and North.

We fought off changes to JHS scheduling and preserved the status quo.

Another important gain that we lost many contract cycles ago is that you can now request that letters of expectation, performance improvement plans, and coaching/counseling documents be removed after 12 months if no other incidences occur. Also, we adopted language around letters of discipline, so that after 18 months, those will “sunset” and you will have a clean slate.

In solidarity from your negotiating team,
Paul Kunkel, Chair; Yolanda Morris, Treasurer; Carolyn Clark, Grievance Officer; and Tami Nesler, Grievance Officer.
