Several Brief Updates

Hello Skagit Valley Hospital Nurses,

Below are several brief updates on issues that have recently come up.

Check Your Paychecks – Rest Between Shifts (RBS)

Please take a moment to review your recent paychecks to ensure that Rest Between Shifts (RBS) time that was paid outside of the recent grievance settlement was correctly applied to your entire shift.

We have heard from some nurses that, in some cases, RBS payments appear to have stopped being paid after nurses clocked out for lunch. If you notice that RBS was not paid for the full shift when it should have been, please let us know so we can track whether this is an isolated issue or a broader problem.

Update: RBS Grievance Payment for Call

The RBS grievance related to call shifts should have been processed and paid. Please review them to ensure the payment was applied correctly.

If anything looks incorrect, notify one of the officers so we can follow up promptly.

Staffing Update – ADOs at the Last HSC Meeting

At the most recent Hospital Staffing Committee (HSC) meeting, two ADOs (Assignment Despite Objection) were reviewed but remained unresolved.

Because they were not resolved at the meeting, management is now required to work with the HSC to develop an action plan addressing the concerns raised, including issues related to staffing levels and nurses’ ability to take meal breaks. We will provide updates as this process moves forward.

Endoscopy – Mandatory Call Concerns

Recently additional mandatory call hours were assigned to endo nurses, without negotiating the additional work requirement first. WSNA has requested information on this topic and asked for the additional call to be ceased until a negotiation can occur. Stay tuned for more information.

Credit goes to the unit officers who raised this issue during the HSC meeting, which helped stop the additional mandatory call time from being implemented without proper discussion.

Wanna Know More?

Attend the local unit meeting every first Monday of the month on teams. The link for that meeting is here. It’s a great place to ask questions, here good information and compare what is going on, in different units. Hope to see you there!

If you have questions, notice issues with your paycheck, or want to share concerns, please reach out to one of the officers.

Thank you for continuing to speak up and support each other.
