Bargaining update – Day 3

On January 29, 2024, our contract negotiation team met with PeaceHealth Southwest administration for our 2nd day of in person negotiations.

Management gave us their non-economic proposal which included some pretty disturbing takeaways given all that you have given to the hospital over the last 3 years. Management has proposed eliminating the following language that you have fought for:

  •  Article 21.3.2.1 – Says management must provide staffing levels that enable RNs the opportunity to receive meal and rest breaks.
  • Article 21.3.2.2 – Says that management must provide staffing levels that enable RNs to utilize their accrued paid time off.
  • Article 21.3.2.3 – Says that except in emergent circumstances, management must refrain from assigning RNs more patients than anticipated by the agreed staffing matrix and relevant safety requirements.
  • Article 21.3.2.4 – Says that Charge RNs will not receive a patient care assignment, whenever possible.

Management also stated that they HAVE NO INTEREST in adopting the staffing ratios that the nurses across the river will have in Oregon...FULL STOP...even though you are serving the same metro area; even though PeaceHealth RNs in Springfield will have these minimum staffing standards; even though PeaceHealth did not object when these standards were passed in Oregon.

“Sip and Chat” updates are here! While we are in negotiations, bargaining team members will be hosting informal union meetings with WSNA members. Our first meeting will be on Saturday, February 10 from 1800 – 2000. Click the button to join via Microsoft Teams or call in (206) 485-2614; Passcode: 864004705# to join!
