Happy Labor Day Weekend
Posted Aug 29, 2025
WSNA wishes all of you a happy Labor Day Weekend, acknowledging that many of you will be working and caring for the community this holiday weekend. Over the years, nurses have spent countless hours negotiating, pushing management, holding rallies, events, committees, and late-night meetings to get all the benefits you rightly deserve in this contract:
Compare your current contract to this WSNA contract between WSNA and the General Staff Section of the Seattle Hospital Council, effective June 1st, 1944:
As you are aware, we are preparing to negotiate our next contract. It is more important than ever that we have as many of you as possible working with us for a better contract. That might mean simply wearing WSNA blue shirts, or stickers, or attending bargaining sessions to observe or address an issue, or coming in person to meetings and events. The results of this contract campaign will reflect the level of engagement we have from everyone involved.
Do not be misguided into thinking someone else will do this for you. Refrain from being fooled into believing the employer will gladly give you a raise and ensure you have the needed staff without constant pressure from union nurses. Your active union participation will determine your future and that of the children today, who may not even realize that they will be the nurses of the future.
Let us know if you’d like to be involved:
Finally, we stand in solidarity with our fellow workers and their ongoing fight for fair working conditions. Please consider joining us at the 2025 Labor Day Picnic on Monday, 9/1, with the Cowlitz Wahkiakum and Southwest Washington Labor Councils. 10:30-3:30 PM at Haydu Park at 253 Kalama River Rd, Kalama, WA.

For those of you caring for patients this weekend, thank you for what you do, and enjoy that Holiday Pay labor brought to you! Questions? Contact one of your officers or WSNA Nurse Representative Bret Percival, bpercival@wsna.org.
