Staffing grievance DENIED!

WSNA received a response to our grievance filed on behalf of all nurses about the ongoing violation of our contract that PeaceHealth is not providing adequate staffing. Our contract states, “Quality of care and the safety of all patients are of paramount concern to the Hospital and the nursing staff who provide care for our patients”. We have seen a record number of ADOs that convey to management that quality of care and patient safety have suffered under the ongoing staffing crisis we have experienced for far too long. WSNA grieved the above provision as well as subsequent violations of the contract that management is routinely not removing charge nurses from the staffing matrix, nor enabling nurses to receive all of their rest and meal breaks due to the woefully inadequate staffing.

With over 250 nurses in attendance, Gary Foster heard the presentation of our Step 3 grievance arguments and has issued this extremely disappointing response. The ongoing staffing crisis continues and management had no real tangible ideas or plans to immediately address the needs of the overworked staff.

Therefore, WSNA is advancing this grievance to Step 4. This is heard by the Chief Executive Officer, Sean Gregory. We encourage everyone to attend this virtual meeting and prepare any comments, questions and stories of your personal understaffed experiences in advance and send in writing to nurse rep Mara at mkieval@wsna.org. Please indicate if you want to remain anonymous or are comfortable with your name being attached to the statement.

Stay tuned for the Teams meeting information and you can read their official denial of our staffing grievance here:
