Spokane VA – UMCC Meeting Update!

And welcome to two new officers!

Buster Wagner WSNA CoChair and Brandi Simundson WSNA Treasurer

Your WSNA Officers and Nurse Rep met with Management this past Friday — and we’ve got fresh updates to share! Here’s what was discussed and the progress we’re making together:

🩺 1. On-Call RNs Sharing One Job Number

Nurses raised concerns about two on-call RNs sharing one job number — it was splitting hours and leaving some without shifts.

Good news! Management agreed this isn’t working and will stop double-filling on-call positions.
📅 Reminder: On-call RNs, don’t forget to give your availability to Heidi by the 10th of each month!
🔄 Management will also partner with scheduling to make shift communication smoother and clearer for everyone.

🚫 2. “No Show” Mix-Up

Recently, an RN was scheduled for a shift but never notified — and was mistakenly marked as a no call, no show.

💬 Management agreed to review the process and make sure this doesn’t happen again. Communication matters!

⏰ 3. Overtime Shift Fairness

We heard from several nurses that overtime shifts weren’t being offered fairly.

Management agreed to follow the proper rotation for open shifts per the CBA:
1️⃣ On-call nurses
2️⃣ Part-time nurses
3️⃣ Full-time nurses (if no one else picks up)

🎯 This helps make sure overtime is fair and transparent across the board.

📱 4. Viewing Schedules and Open Shifts Off-Site

Right now, schedules can only be seen at work — which makes it tough to know when your assigned shifts or they open up.

💡 Management will explore group communication tools (like text alerts or Microsoft Teams) to share open shifts in real time. Stay tuned!

💊 5. Point Click Care (PCC) Training

Many nurses said PCC’s medication charting can be confusing — and we get it!

We talked it through, and while we can’t change the system itself, management is on board with offering extra training.

This was a great start to tackling real issues and finding real solutions for our Spokane VA nurses!

Together, we’re building a stronger, more supported nursing team at the Spokane VA! 💙
