This week, we celebrate us—the nurses who carry the weight of this profession with courage, skill, and unwavering compassion. We celebrate the care we give, the advocacy we lead, and the strength we show every single day—not just for our patients, but for each other.
Nursing is more than a job. It’s a calling, a fight, and a commitment to do what’s right, even when it’s hard. We’ve endured trauma, burnout, and short staffing—and still, we’ve remained the most trusted profession in the nation. That trust is earned by nurses like you who never back down and never stop caring.
This Nurses Week, we’re proud to share and wear a message that matters:
“You are SAFE with me.”
Your officer team will be handing out pins with this message as a reminder—to our patients and our peers—that no matter who you are or where you come from, when you are in our care, you are safe. Wear your pin proudly on your WSNA badge buddy.
Meet Your New Officers
We held officer elections in accordance with our local unit rules, and the results are in. Your newly elected officer team for the next three years is:
- Co-Chair – Clair Korrell, ICU
- Co-Chair – Devon Tallman, ICU
- Secretary – Jessica Cook, Med-Tele
- Treasurer – Savvy Baily, ICU
- Grievance Officer – Tiffany Stephansky, ED
Your officers have also appointed the following nurses to serve alongside them:
- Co-Secretary – Nikki Wright, Peri-Op
- Grievance Officer – Erin Stoner, ED
- Membership Officer – Brandi Poggemann, Ortho
- Membership Officer – Molly McKinney, Ortho
We also want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Nicole Sandell (PCU) for her years of dedicated service as Secretary. Nicole chose not to run for re-election as she focuses on the exciting journey of welcoming a new baby to her family, but she remains a strong, engaged voice in our union. We’re grateful for everything she’s done—and everything she continues to bring to our movement.
Thank you to everyone who voted and stepped up to lead. With this strong team in place, we’re ready to keep moving our profession forward.
Post-Contract Accountability
We’re holding management accountable to the commitments they made in bargaining.
Management agreed to retroactively pay premiums and differentials—but missed their self-imposed deadline after requesting an extension until April 30. We’ve been told payment is coming in the next pay period, but we’re not waiting around. We’re moving forward with the grievance to ensure every nurse receives what they’re owed.
We’re also continuing to track and challenge improper low census practices. All low census is now date-based, not hour-based. If you’ve been placed on low census in error, report it to your nurse rep, Jared Richardson at JRichardson@WSNA.org. We’re actively pursuing this grievance and every data point strengthens our case.
And in call-taking units, we’re seeing management try to play games with call incentive pay. Let’s be clear: if a hole opens in the schedule after it’s been posted, that shift earns the $15/hour call incentive. If you haven’t been paid what you’re owed, reach out right away.
We’re Just Getting Started
Together, we’ve already made major gains—and we’re not stopping. With this new officer team, active contract enforcement, and your continued engagement, we’re building a stronger, more united future at St. Clare’s.
Thank you for all the work you do. Thank you for showing up with integrity and strength. And thank you for making this Nurses Week one worth celebrating.
Happy Nurses Week, St. Clare’s!
We see you. We stand with you. We are you.
