Celebrating Indigenous People’s Day

This Monday, October 14, Washington State proudly observes Indigenous People’s Day. We take this opportunity to recognize and honor the traditional lands of the Nisqually, Puyallup, Squaxin, Steilacoom, and Muckleshoot tribes—lands that we are privileged to live and work on today. These communities have been the stewards of Pierce County long before our time, with roots and connections that stretch back through the ages. As union members and allies, we are committed to standing in solidarity with Indigenous communities, acknowledging the deep historical injustices they have faced, and expressing our heartfelt gratitude for their continued care of the land we share.

Blood Drive: Nurses Helping Save Lives

At WSNA, we know that nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare, and our commitment to saving lives extends beyond the bedside. That’s why we’re teaming up with the Rainier Olympic Nurses Association to host a blood drive on Friday, October 18, from 9 AM to 3 PM at Tacoma Community College. Every drop of blood counts, and your donation can make the difference between life and death for patients in need. This is a chance for us, as nurses, to lead by example and ensure our hospitals are equipped to provide critical, lifesaving care. To schedule your appointment, simply scan the QR code on the flyer below. Together, we can give the gift of life!

Picket Pledges

Informational Pickets are a powerful tool we have at our disposal – they engage the community, show management our collective solidarity, and give us power at the negotiating table. We need everyone to sign and return a picket pledge so we can assess the willingness of our nurses to picket. There are already pledges floating around break rooms across the hospital, but we need as much help as we can get in having every nurse sign and return one.

You can find a printable picket pledge here . If you work per diem or are unable to sign a physical pledge, you can send us a picture of your signature at 206-553-9794 or sjmc@wsna.org to let us know that we can count you in as ready to picket.

Next Negotiation Date

Negotiation session #7 is on 10/16/2024 and will be held at the University of Washington Tacoma in the GWP building. We would love to have you join as an observer. When nurses show up management is forced to listen. Contact Grace LaMonte at sjmc@wsna.org if you would like to attend as an observer.
