Yesterday, SJMC’s HR Director reached out to WSNA regarding the Union Grievance we filed on June 20. The employer has responded with the following:

• The Emergency Department Weapons Detection Pilot Program is set to ‘go live’ on July 8
• An acknowledgement that they should have communicated about the unanticipated delays better
• A request that WSNA extend the timeline for the Step 1 grievance until July 11

As you may recall, WSNA filed a Union Grievance under Article 16.2 based on the employer’s failure to comply with the terms of the WSNA Contract.

Specifically, SJMC failed to adhere to prescribed timelines in the MOU - Emergency Department Weapons Detection Pilot Program. The MOU provides, 'No later than six (6) months after ratification, the hospital will start a Weapon Detection pilot program by installing and staffing a Weapon Detection system in the Emergency Department.' It is six (6) months post CBA ratification, and no weapon detection system has been installed.

WSNA has agreed to extend the grievance timeline ONE time. Safety must be a top priority and delays in implementing a weapons detection system can = HARM.
