Latest Updates and Important Information

Negotiations Extension

Due to the protracted bankruptcy, we have extended the terms of our current agreement through Dec. 31. We will continue to keep you updated as things progress.

Officer Elections

It’s time again for officer elections. Have you thought about becoming more active in your union? Here’s a great chance for you to serve as a representative for your colleagues. Nomination forms will be going out in the mail very soon. You can nominate yourself. Watch your mail. You must be a member of WSNA in good standing to serve. If you are interested but haven’t joined, go to the Membership page at wsna.org and join today!

Employer’s contribution to 401K Grievance

As many of you have probably noticed, Astria is no longer contributing to your 401K monthly. We filed an association grievance regarding this matter. They have not changed the plan. You will see the employer’s contribution but it won’t be monthly as they have done in the past. You will now see it at the end of the year. This is stipulated on page 25 of the 401K plan document. While monthly contributions are definitely preferred and more beneficial to you, the employee, it is very rare to see employers take that approach. With that said, the plan does not call for monthly employer contributions.

Staffing Committee

Are you interested in being part of the Nurse Staffing Committee? We’d love to hear from you. You must be a WSNA member in good standing to serve as a staff nurse on this committee.

We normally meet quarterly; however, we are currently meeting monthly as we have to send our plan to the Department of Health (DOH) by January 1, 2021. WSNA filed a complaint with the DOH this past January because the staffing plan hadn’t been submitted in a timely manner. The hospital did submit the 2020 staffing plan once they were notified for inspection.

If you would like to know more about the Staffing Law and the Staffing Committee, feel free to contact Lovella Flores, your WSNA Chair and Co-Chair for the Staffing Committee and ASH.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact one of your Local Unit Officers or your WSNA nurse representative, Carmen Garrison aat cgarrison@wsna.org.
