Introducing Ryan Silva
Posted Mar 2, 2026

Starting Monday, March 2, 2026, Ryan will serve as the WSNA Representative for nurses at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital. Ryan sincerely thanks Jared for his tireless hard work and unwavering dedication to labor advocacy and steadfast support of Tacoma General RNs, and he looks forward to continuing this important work together.
Ryan is a registered nurse who brings both clinical experience and a strong commitment to advocacy to his role. While he’s new to WSNA, he’s no stranger to standing up for nurses. Originally from Northern California, Ryan moved to Seattle in 2019 to work at Seattle Children’s Hospital. It was there that his passion for fairness and equity deepened as he saw firsthand the differences between collective bargaining agreements for RNs in California and Washington.
Working on the frontlines of pediatric nursing, Ryan supported colleagues through labor-related initiatives and developed a thoughtful, steady approach to navigating complex workplace challenges. He believes that promoting equitable treatment starts with listening, and that ensuring nurses’ voices are heard is at the heart of meaningful change.
Before leaving Seattle Children’s to pursue a Master of Education in Leadership at the University of Washington, Ryan briefly served on the negotiating team. In that role, he collaborated closely with the bargaining team to analyze pay structures, PTO incentives, shift differentials, and other key contract elements. His work contributed to securing meaningful improvements for nursing staff and reinforced his belief in the power of solidarity.
At Tacoma General Hospital, Ryan steps into this role following a strong round of collective bargaining. The current contract preserves nurse-patient ratios and reinforces safe staffing standards that allow nurses to deliver the highest quality care. It also includes clear, competitive call language that provides greater predictability and fairness. In addition, per diem nurses recently voted to join the Tacoma General WSNA bargaining unit, an important step in strengthening unity, equity, and collective power across the workforce.
Ryan’s professional journey, from bedside nursing to union representation reflects a consistent commitment to advocating for nurses. He is grateful for the work already done by this bargaining unit and looks forward to partnering with you to advance safe staffing, support Hospital Staffing Committee efforts, and build on recent contract victories to ensure equitable working conditions and a healthy workplace for all.
