WSNA Wins Election: NICU Per Diem RNs Unanimously Vote to Join WSNA

On Tuesday, November 7, 2023 the National Labor Relations Board held the vote count for the NICU Per Diem Nurses WSNA election. The results were unanimous – yes for WSNA! This group of 40 nurses will now be represented by WSNA alongside their FTE 163 RN colleagues at the NICU in Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. This victory comes on the heels of an extraordinary organizing effort by the per diem nurses and unified leadership by local WSNA elected officers.

Local nurse officers engaged with per diem nurses during WSNA bargaining with management in September, encouraging them to voice their concerns and fight to join WSNA at the table. Per diem nurses responded by quickly organizing with WSNA to request that management voluntarily recognize the union with over 75% of nurse support. When management refused, they did not let this stop them. In short order, they collected authorization cards and WSNA membership applications and filed with 90% on cards at the NLRB – paving the way to winning the vote today.

Congratulations WSNA Per Diem RNs of Mary Bridge - we stand with you as you prepare to bargain for union rights for the first time!
