Spring Unit Rep Trainings: Stronger Together!
Posted May 5, 2025
Although it seems like our contract was just ratified, we are quickly approaching our next round of negotiations! Now is a great time to become more involved in our union by signing up for a Unit Rep Training in the month of May. Nurses across MultiCare facilities in Pierce County are invited to attend this training as we approach bargaining at Tacoma General in 2025 and Good Samaritan in 2026.
Unit Reps also help support our elected union officers as they volunteer to support staffing committee, negotiations, and all the other work that comes with ensuring our contract is enforced.
Tacoma General Chair Therese Juntunen says that we need unit reps because: "I can't do this by myself. We know that nurses at Tacoma General want a great contract, but we can't do that without people showing up."
Good Samaritan Chair Ilia Mondoy wants people to know that: "When people ask who is the union, you are the union. It is the collective action of all of us that gets things to happen. MultiCare never believed in a million years we would strike, and when we voted to strike we finally got break nurses. It is so important to keep the momentum going, negotiations are less than a year away and being involved helps all of us get the contract we want."
The training covers the basics of contract enforcement and workplace organizing. Topics include:
- The role of a Unit Rep
- Our rights at work
- Just cause discipline
- Internal issue organizing for your unit
- Actions during contract campaigns
We’ll be holding virtual training sessions for about an hour on these dates:
- May 12 at 0900
- May 13 at 1200
- May 14 at 1930
If you’re unsure if you can commit to being a Unit Rep but still want to get involved, we encourage you to come to the training to see if it’s something you’re interested in! If you want to keep our contracts strong, advocate for your coworkers, help fix issues on your unit, and get involved with our union, sign up today.
