WSNA nurses stand strong and WIN!

ULP Complaint

Earlier this week, WSNA and Tacoma General settled the Unfair Labor Practice complaint we submitted to Region 19 National Labor Relations Board. Together, we stood up to ongoing attacks on the rights of our nurses. As a result of our perseverance and willingness of many fearless union nurses willing to speak against the insulting and horrendous actions of hospital administration, we have a victory for which we can be proud! This settlement includes TG's agreement to refrain from the following actions cited in the original complaint:

  1. Interfering with nurses' ability to join or participate in union activities, choose union representation, and group efforts for the benefit of protection.
  2. Interfering, coercing, or restraining nurses from exercising their protected rights.
  3. Monitoring, or appearing to monitor, nurses engaged in Union activity, such as private groups or Facebook posts.
  4. Interfering with nurses' ability to discuss wages, hours, working conditions with peers, or hold Union leadership positions.
  5. Threatening or investigating nurses for discussing wages, hours, working conditions with peers, or hold Union leadership positions.
  6. Instructing or pressuring nurses to stop Union involvement, including holding Union leadership positions.
  7. Polling co-workers for a grievance information against nurses who engage in protected Union activity.

Please see your email for the complete report. Tacoma General has agreed to email it to bargaining unit nurses as a part of the settlement.

This is very exciting news for nurses because many have expressed fear of retaliation from TG Management. Your Union activities are protected and we need to hear all voices to build a better work environment at TG.

DOSH Complaint

We have also heard great news regarding our DOSH investigation into Tacoma General.

TG has been cited with:

  1. A serious offense for not providing proper respirators, as well as;
  2. A repeated serious offense for not providing barriers or methods for social distancing.

DOSH has confirmed that these will result in financial penalties, although the fine has not yet been determined.

TG has been instructed to post the full report in break rooms, so you may view the report there.

IPP Concerns

We have heard a number of concerns related to IPP and changes to the way this is being paid. We have a current grievance regarding IPP and would like to hear from all nurses affected by these changes.

If you have worked an IPP shift but have been told that you are ineligible for IPP pay, please contact Brenda Balogh as soon as possible at bbalogh@wsna.org

We can determine if you are eligible to be named as a grievant. In many cases this is due to receiving a premium for the same hours as the IPP.
