Bargaining Update #1 Seattle Children’s Nurses – We are officially bargaining!

Yesterday, May 28, your WSNA bargaining team met with Management for our first bargaining session. As is often the case with first-day negotiations, WSNA shared multiple non-economic proposals with the hospital team and is eagerly awaiting their response. Our focus was to reaffirm our commitment to our core values, establish a strong foundation for pay equity, and align our preamble language with the ANA Code of Ethics.

Upholding our core values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is essential as we strive to be on the right side of history. Our priorities shine brightly:

  • Advocating for wages that are ethical and sustainable, enabling our nurses to live where they serve
  • Ensuring safe staffing by securing necessary breaks for nurses and empowering our staffing committees through effective structures
  • Focusing on recruitment and retention to build a strong, dedicated workforce and reduce our reliance on travel nurses in critical care areas
  • Promoting health at work and home by fostering a culture that honors sufficient sick time and actively addresses workplace violence

Every effort we make reflects our commitment to the ANA Code of Ethics and is guided by insights from our negotiation survey. Together, we will create an empowered, ethical, and thriving work environment for all.

We acknowledge the absence of our CNO, Bonnie Fryzlewicz, from the negotiation table, which has been a source of disappointment for us. We urge her return, as her consistent exclusion from our discussions has been felt deeply. Her role as the primary advocate for nurses to our executive team and the board is invaluable, and we hope the hospital will embrace her presence once again.

Our next bargaining date is June 3, and we eagerly anticipate collaborating with Seattle Children’s to reach a swift and amicable agreement. We are dedicated to keeping you informed with transparent and up-to-date information throughout these negotiations.

Please join our ongoing meet-ups at Magnuson Cafe & Brewery (7801 62nd Ave NE Seattle, WA 98115) every other Friday at 5 p.m., starting June 6. Your WSNA officers and bargaining team members will be there to address your questions and discuss our progress and plans for negotiation.
