WSNA Conference Committee UPDATE

On April 22, Local Unit Officer Alison Harless and Nurse Rep Jaclyn Smedley met with Management to discuss the topics you have raised, because they are important to you. Which means, they are important to us. Below is a quick summary of the discussions and action items. Please let us know if these agreements are not being upheld by management. We will swiftly enforce your WSNA contract.

Safety Alert Devices

WSNA raised the issue of the Beacon devise and concerns it has not been installed on all the work phones. We also communicated every nurse needs to be trained. This is a requirement per the WSNA contract Article 19.2.

Management has told us all of the Beacon devices are up and running, and all nurses have been trained. If there is a nurse who does not have a Beacon, or still needs training, they are to communicate this need to their DCS right away. Both will promptly be provided upon request.

Complex Case Reviews

While we realize the term Complex Case Review is a Providence term, we wanted to ensure Compassus has a similar mechanism for nurses to be made aware of high-risk patients PRIOR to the assignment being made. This topic was a large portion of bargaining last year, and it is your right according to the WSNA contract Article 19.4.

Management has told us patients go through a referral process with every intake. If there are any suggested safety measures, their case goes to a Regional 61 meeting where management discusses high risk patients. There is another safety review at the time of scheduling by the schedulers.

Management has told us if there is a risk to the nurses, the nurses would be notified beforehand. This notification would come via a Teams message, email or a point click care alert.

Management has told us if there are issues, or if nurses have gone into homes with risk, they need to escalate the safety concern occurrence ASAP. Nurses are to send an email to their DCS. Management has offered to join in a ride along with RNs for field visits if the RN does not feel safe. Safety is the primary goal.

Zip Code Changes

We heard from nurses management changed the zip codes for RN patient visits and this created longer drive times and more physical area for coverage.

Management has told us the zip code change was made in error and that assignments should have been restored. In the event you are still having troubles with this error, reach out to your Nurse Rep or your DCS and they will get this corrected for you.

Next Conference Committee date is set for June 17!

If there are issues you would like to see addressed during this meeting, email your Nurse Representative.
