Astria bargaining update

WSNA is continuing the fight for justice for nurses affected by the closure of ARMC. We are working at both the bargaining table and in the courts to achieve a fair outcome for ARMC nurses.

At the bargaining table, your negotiation team recently delivered a proposal to bargain the effects of Astria’s decision to close the facility. The employer responded with a wholly inadequate proposal requiring only that Astria pay a portion of PTO time accumulated by nurses who are no longer working for Astria. The employer’s proposal did not address our position that nurses are entitled to severance and lost wages in addition to PTO payouts. In exchange, Astria has demanded that WSNA support the employer’s plan to dissolve our collective bargaining agreement and waive all claims against Astria. WSNA has rejected this proposal.

WSNA has brought a number of federal and state claims against Astria. Astria has filed a motion to dismiss our claims. This motion will be heard by the Bankruptcy Court next week and we expect a decision shortly thereafter. We are confident that the Court will allow our claims to proceed.
