Bargaining update - Joint Session #6
Posted May 23, 2025
We met with Management on Thursday, May 22 for our 6th joint session with UWMC Montlake and Northwest. We will meet again on June 3. With two scheduled sessions left, we remain apart in several of your key priorities. Working to secure compensation enables us to live and thrive in our community remains a top priority for our team, with that in mind we spent the morning preparing our economic counter to management’s 2% year one- and 1%-year two wages proposal.
Highlights from the session:
- Employers are moving away from time clock rounding and changing to a minute-by-minute accounting. The Employer states that this will eliminate 28/160 scheduling option at UWMC ML. Per the employer “If you do one, you must do the other because you must reconcile your FTE within a week. Those two 100% must go together”.
- The employer’s response to our WPV proposal is allowing 2 RNs each from ML and 2 RNs from NW to sit on WPV committee, with the possibility of allowing guests to attend on unpaid time, but only with permission from the committee co-chairs (a public safety manager and a clinical nurse specialist)
- Nasty takeaway for our Per Diems: Management proposes nurses moving from a classified position to per diem lose their just cause status until 1872 hours are worked, regardless of prior length of service.
We need you to show up on our next session June 3 to show management we are worth more than 3%.

You can do three things to continue to turn the heat up on management!
1. Sign the Petition
Ask any bargaining team member for a petition or print a copy here! You can send petition signatures to wsna.uwnorthwest@gmail.com or text them to WSNA Organizer Zach at 206-406-7203.
2. Share the Bargaining Updates
We have three joint sessions scheduled until your contract expires. It is crucial to read the email updates and share them on your unit with your co-workers. You can find our socials here. Don’t get WSNA emails updates? Follow this guide to whitelist newsletter@wsna.org.
3. Wear your “I Support my Bargaining Team” Button Every Shift
It is crucial that management sees every nurse wearing one to show we are united in solidarity for a strong contract. Need a button? Email your negotiation team at wsna.uwnorthwest@gmail.com

LTCC Update:
LTCC—We demanded a bargaining session to discuss the impacts of the previous layoffs that were announced. With all the concerns on the unit around staffing and patient acuity, we are having a JLM (joint labor-management) meeting on Thursday , May 29, at 1100. This meeting will be virtual and open to all nurses working at LTCC. We will also have 5 nurses from Gero Psych come and speak on concerns about the upcoming cross-training/floating.
