An Independence Day Message to Our Union Family
Let Freedom Ring
As we approach July 4—our nation’s day of independence—we’re reminded that any fight worth winning is worth fighting. Throughout history, people have secured freedom only through unity, courage, and persistence. That same spirit drives us today.
Several of our fellow nurses have been terminated for alleged HIPAA violations. We have filed grievances. We are not in agreement with these terminations—and we will not let any collective bargaining member stand alone.
You have the right to representation
“A nurse may request the presence of an Association representative during any investigatory meeting which the nurse believes may lead to a disciplinary action. The manager or supervisor shall inform the nurse of the purpose of such investigatory meeting in advance. Except in any case requiring immediate action on the part of the Employer, the nurse shall be allowed a reasonable amount of time to obtain Association representation.” -- Article 9.7.3 of our Sacred Heart CBA (2023–2025):
If you are called to a meeting that may involve discipline, you do not have to go in alone. Ask for a WSNA representative and know that you have a right to time to secure one before proceeding.
This is a time for unity. We win through solidarity, not silence. Let this fourth of July serve as a call to action—stand together, speak up, and protect one another.
Let freedom ring, not just in our country, but in our workplace!
In solidarity,
