The WSNA Board of Directors is seeking applications for the following WSNA councils and committees. The Board will be making appointments at its Aug. 22 meeting. Appointments will be for terms of two years.

This is an opportunity to be involved and help WSNA to move nursing forward in Washington state!

If you or you are interested in serving on any of these councils or committees, please go to the Application for Appointment form (also known as the “Consent to Serve”).

Please submit your application no later than Aug. 10, 2025. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Mainville, WSNA executive assistant.

Appointments will be made to these WSNA Councils and Committees:

Professional Nursing and Health Care Council

The Professional Nursing and Healthcare Council forecasts trends, promotes continuing education programs, addresses issues on nursing practice, and collaborates with other nursing and specialty organizations. Council members also develop resources on issues relating to nursing practice, education, human rights, access to health care, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Time commitment: Three one-day virtual meetings per year; some committee work outside of meetings is also typical.

Open positions: Four appointed members, who will serve with seven elected members.

Legislative and Health Policy Council

Legislative and Health Policy Council members serve in a politically nonpartisan capacity to recommend a state legislative agenda to the WSNA Board of Directors; review proposed legislation and recommend responses; educate and assist the WSNA membership in understanding WSNA’s legislative priorities; and they assist in providing information to legislators and the public.

Time commitment: Three one-day meetings per year, a virtual Advocacy Camp, and Nurse Lobby Day in Olympia; weekly virtual meetings while the Washington State Legislature is in session (January through March or April).

Open positions: Four appointed members, who will serve with three elected members.

Bylaws/Resolutions Committee

The committee reviews the WSNA Bylaws and proposes amendments or other changes. The committee also receives, reviews, and prepares resolutions for presentation to the General Assembly.

Time commitment: Generally between four and six meetings, most of them in the second year of the biennium.

Open positions: Between three and seven appointed members.

WSNA Nominations/Search Committee

The committee prepares the initial ballot for election of WSNA officers, directors, councils, and representatives to ANA Membership Assembly. It also oversees the WSNA elections process.

Open positions: Three appointed members, who will serve with three elected members.

WSNA Political Action Committee Board of Trustees

The committee plans and implements political endorsements, fundraising, candidate support activities, and political education.

Open positions: Eleven appointed members. Optimally, one member will be appointed from each congressional district and one will be appointed at-large.

Washington State Nurses Foundation (WSNF) Board of Trustees

WSNF serves to advance the nursing profession and facilitate nursing’s contribution to the health of the community by providing funds for nursing. The Board of Trustees oversees use of these funds and supports fundraising for the Foundation.

Open positions: Between five and nine appointed members.

Finance Committee

Responsibilities of the committee include presenting the annual WSNA budget to the Board of Directors for approval; monitoring the budget throughout the year; recommending changes in finance policies and dues structure; and serving as the audit committee.

Open positions: Up to three appointees, who will serve with the WSNA secretary/treasurer (who serves as chair), president, vice-president, and a representative selected by the Labor Executive Council.
