The Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) is deeply saddened by news of a horrific industrial accident at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging plant in Longview on Tuesday. A chemical tank rupture at the plant’s paper mill released white liquor, a chemical used in paper-making, leading to multiple critical injuries and fatalities.

This tragic incident has shaken the entire Longview community. WSNA members at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center are providing care for victims suffering chemical burns and other injuries. In a closeknit community like Longview, we know that many of our members will also have close personal connections to those seriously and fatally injured workers, which makes the situation even more devastating.

We send heartfelt support to all those who have been affected by this accident. We will provide updated information on the situation, including how to support victims and their families.
