Action Update! Advisory Vote and Staffing Committee Update
Posted July 23, 2026
Today at our Hospital Staffing Committee, our Union took action. WSNA and SEIU Union representatives fired staffing committee members from their role on the committee until further notice.
MultiCare continues to ignore and redirect our concerns about staffing, shuttling us between Unit Based Staffing Committees and Hospital Staffing Committee while refusing to engage in productive staffing discussions at negotiations. Our participation in staffing committee condones this behavior and allows MultiCare to do the bare minimum in complying with state law.
Our Hospital Staffing Committee is meant to be a vehicle for management to hear nurse and healthcare workers’ concerns and collaborate on staffing plans to address those concerns. Instead, management has been using it to check off their legal obligations by doing the bare minimum and ignoring our concerns at the bargaining table.
We remain willing to meet and discuss our proposed changes to staffing in the Hospital at the bargaining table.

Our Advisory Vote is Tomorrow!
On Friday 7/24, we’ll be holding an online advisory vote to show MultiCare that we will not accept their last contract offer – and will not accept any offer that takes away our additional staffing resources as a contract right.
MultiCare has continually attempted to dissolve our Additional Staffing Resources MOU that we won in our 2023 contract after 94% of nurses voted to strike over staffing and break relief issues. This victory was hard-won, and we’re not interested in giving it up or weakening it in any way.
We are recommending everyone to vote NO in the advisory vote to show MultiCare that nurses at Good Sam won’t ratify a contract that takes away our contractual right to free flex and charge nurses on our floors. This is not an official vote but is our way of standing up to these continued takeaways MultiCare thinks it can get away with.
The vote will be virtual and will open at 0600 on 7/24 at the link below. The vote will be open until 2000. Remind your friends and coworkers to vote so we can show MultiCare our unity in demanding safe staffing and a fair contract.
Vote Here - Vote opens at 0600 tomorrow!

New Targeted Ad Campaign
Starting this week, we are starting a robust digital ad campaign in which targeted digital ads will flood the devices of patients, their families, and workers at the hospital. Anyone using YouTube and social media may see our messages. If you have ideas for ads or messages for social media, let us know!
Upcoming Meeting with Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello
Next week, WSNA members will meet with Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello. We plan to give Mr. Mello an update on working conditions at the hospital along with the current status of our bargaining. It's time that leaders in our community learn the truth about what really is happening at our hospital. As we know, things are not at all like MultiCare portrays.
