Happy Wednesday Everybody!

(or Friday for some and Sunday for others, because hospitals are shift work and the days don’t matter..)

HSC

As the staffing committee process has matured and started to take more shape there has been some progress made. The ACU staffing matrix survey, identifying gaps in the ED and ICU are all progress. There has been understandable frustration over no immediate progress on some of these issues and the perception of the coding to ignore the issue. This is not the case nor the intent. There are tight timelines in the law to code an ADO, some of these have been agreed to intentionally be moved out to give management the time and flexibility to appropriately address these issues. It also gives the committee the opportunity to address the resolution when it comes back to the HSC to ensure it is enough. While getting a bunch of non-compliant coded ADOs may initially vindicating, it risks giving away our opportunity for input on the solution. In my experience the people doing the work usually know the best way to fix the problem. As the issues continue, please continue to fill out ADOs so they can be trended. If anyone is trying to encourage to not fill out ADOs please reach out to me and let me know.

In the coming months you will see an increasing amount of communication around opportunities to give input around the upcoming contract, please stay tuned and please participate. We will need everyone together as we move forward to ensure that we get the contract you deserve which will get the community the care that they need.

Honoring a Fellow Nurse

As many of you are aware, there was a tragedy in Minneapolis last Saturday in which ICU RN Alex Pretti was killed. This has been a painful and emotional event for many nurses nationwide and hits especially close to home.

WSNA released a statement last Saturday, followed by statements from the ANA   and other organizations. Several members have asked whether there is an opportunity to gather in remembrance.

Stand Up Anacortes has offered space for a vigil at 12th Street and Commercial Avenue (near Safeway) in Anacortes this Friday from noon–1 pm. Those who wish to attend are welcome to come and hold space in remembrance of Alex. This invitation will be offered to multiple hospitals in the area.

Questions or Concerns please reach out to your officers or your nurse rep, rcully@WSNA.org.
