Temporary Nurse Program

In March of 2023, Island Health launched a program designed to allow the hospital to recruit outside staff without using a traveling nursing agency, paying $75-85 per hour (with no benefits or stipends). Your officers and WSNA were not notified of this new program prior to the roll-out, so we did not have an opportunity to bargain over the inclusion of these new non-union employees.

Ensuring safe staffing is always a high priority and has never been more challenging. We are currently working with the hospital to ensure this program complies with the contract we ratified last year, and that the implementation is fair to the current employees at Island Health. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your WSNA Nurse Rep Grace Chesterman (gchesterman@wsna.org).

Champions of Change – 2024 Union Leadership Conference

Don’t miss WSNA’s labor training event at Campbell’s Resort in Chelan April 28-30

Join nurses from around the state as we convene to build stronger local units, become more effective leaders, learn more about the national and state labor scenes, celebrate our successes, and strategize for what’s coming next.

If you are a local unit officer, conference committee member, staffing committee member, safety committee member, unit rep/liaison or member in one of WSNA’s local units who is interested in advocating for nurses and becoming more involved in your union, this conference is for you.
