Local Unit Update

Juneteenth, celebrated each year on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The holiday marks the end of slavery in the United States and serves as a time to honor the resilience, achievements, and contributions of African Americans throughout history. Juneteenth is celebrated through community gatherings, educational events, cultural traditions, and reflections on the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice. By recognizing Juneteenth, we acknowledge an important chapter in American history and reaffirm our commitment to freedom, opportunity, and inclusion for all.
