  • Continuing: Night shifts
  • Continuing: ED 1500-0300 shifts
  • Adding: Weekend shifts that are daytime
  • Adding: Open and posted urgent care shifts

Per Diem staff will be eligible for the stipend after committing and working 16 hours per pay period. Change from “2 shifts” per pay period during Quarter 1 and Quarter 2.

Conference Committee update

We had a lengthy conversation regarding endarterectomies being done at KVH and concerns about possible negative outcomes for patients. Keeping in mind KVH is a small facility without access to a readily available cath lab for interventions. Management is taking your concerns seriously and working on processes.

Nurse Staffing Committee update

We had NSC meeting Monday, July 11. Several ADOs (Assignment Despite Objection/staffing complaint forms) were reviewed. We also had a very collaborative conversation regarding Emergency Department issues; safety concerns, ED holds, staffing especially on the night shift, and security/EPD (Ellensburg Police Department) roles in protecting staff from violent patients.

ADO

Please continue to complete ADOs so we can objectively assess the staffing issues. We discuss every ADO at Staffing Committee. Filling out the form makes a difference because it keeps management apprised of issues and these can be tracked by issue. For every ADO that is completed by a staff member, there are more staff who just do their job and subject themselves to unsafe working conditions. Your voice is important. Please raise it.

Contract Negotiations

Our contract expires the end of this year. We’ll be sending out a survey in preparation for negotiations. Your input is essential in helping the team prepare for the upcoming negotiations. We’ll be sending out the link to the online survey in the near future so be watching for that.

Officer Elections

Are you considering being a local unit officer? We’ll be doing election of officers early next year, following contract negotiations. Why are we bringing this up now? Because we want you to start thinking about taking a more active role in your union. If you are interested and would like more information, please contact your nurse representative, Carmen Garrison cgarrison@wsna.org.
